Bank Islam Appoints New Directors from Dubai Group


Kuala Lumpur, 2 March 2007 – Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) today announced the appointment of three new Directors and one Alternate Director who are representatives of the Dubai Group.

The appointed Directors are: Salaam Said Al Shaksy, Managing Director of Dubai Group, Fadel Al Ali, COO and CFO of Dubai Holding L.L.C. and Hashim Al Dabal, Executive Chairman, Dubai Properties. Marwan Al-Khatib, Director, Dubai Islamic Investment Group is an Alternate Director to Hashim Al Dabal.

The Dubai Group representatives, along with acting as a gateway for Bank Islam into the Middle East, will bring their expertise in the financial sector.

Salaam Said Al Shaksy

Salaam Said Al Shaksy is the Managing Director of Dubai Group. Al Shaksy has over 20 years experience in finance and investments. He also has extensive experience in treasury management, credit administration and financial control. A sought after keynote speaker at global financial conferences, he is the Vice Chairman of Board-Muscat Securities Market; Vice-Chairman of Board-Shell Marketing, and a Board Member of the College of Banking and Financial Studies, Oman. Al Shaksy holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics, a Masters in Management Information Systems and an MBA in Management of Financial Services from Boston University, USA. He has also completed the Senior Executive Program at London Business School.

Prior to joining, he was the Deputy Chief Executive for Bank Dhofar, the Sultanate of Oman, after its merger with Majan International Bank (MIB). He was also the Head of Business Planning and Analysis for Citibank Global Consumer Business, United Arab Emirates.

Before joining MIB, Al Shaksy headed a group comprising three divisions – retail banking, investment banking and correspondent banking at the National Bank of Oman.

Fadel Al Ali COO/ CFO – Dubai Holdings L.L.C.

Fadel holds the position of COO and CFO of Dubai Holdings L.L.C. He was appointed as CFO of Dubai Holding in September 2004 and promoted to the position of COO in Dec 2005. Fadel is responsible for group functions namely Legal, Marketing Strategy, Audit, Corporate Governance, Treasury and Finance.

Fadel has a Bsc Honours in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He also holds a certificate of Finance from the American University of Shariah. Prior to this he was the Head of UAE Distribution Citibank, N.A. Dubai. Fadel has over 16 years experience with Citigroup covering Consumer credit management, financial controls, sales and distribution and strategic planning. Prior to joining Citibank, he was with the Dubai Municipality for two years as head of the Follow up and Control Unit in the Horticulture Department.

Hashim Al Dabal Executive Chairman, Dubai Properties

Hashim Al Dabal is the Executive Chairman of Dubai Properties and a board member of Dubai Holding. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Management studies from the USA.

Under his leadership, Dubai Properties conceived and launched freehold projects such as Jumeirah Beach Residence, Business Bay, Culture Village, The Villa and Tijara Town, which add value for the customer and contribute towards the growth of Dubai.

Hashim Al Dabal contributed numerously to Dubai Holding through various participations in different entities within Dubai Holding as a board member of Empower, Dubai International Capital and Noor Islamic Bank.

Prior to joining Dubai Properties, Hashim served as the Executive Director of Dubai Islamic Bank, and has 10 years of experience within Citibank in the UAE in various positions lastly served as Resident Vice President.

Marwan Al-Khatib Director – Dubai Islamic Investment Group

Marwan Al Khatib is the Director of Islamic Banking at Dubai Islamic Investment Group. He has over 15 years of experience in the fields of Corporate Finance, Audit, Risk Management, Business Planning and Corporate Banking with blue-ship companies such as Al-Futtaim Group, Mashreq Bank, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Marwan Al Khatib holds an MBA in Banking & Finance and a BA in Business Administration & Computer Science.
